The Knopf Company

Jeanne Knopf DeRoche founded The Knopf Company, Inc. in 1984 with a mission of providing training, consultation and services in the areas of high-risk youth, families and substance abuse prevention.

The Knopf Company has extensive experience working with federal, state and regional funded training and consulting programs. At the regional level, the Company has had substance abuse prevention contracts with the local coordinating agency, now SEMCA, for 25 years. At the state level, it has had contracts with Michigan Department of Community Health, Family Independence Agency, Office of Children and Family Services, Michigan Department of Education and Michigan Department of Labor - Wayne County Job Connection and currently the Bureau of Substance Abuse and Addiction Services. At the federal level the Company has worked with the Department of State, the United States Information Agency, the United States Agency for International Development, Peace Corps as well as Ford Motor Company.

Since its founding in 1984, The Knopf Company has completed numerous prevention projects. Selected examples include:

  • Coordination with over 42 Law Enforcement Agencies for Tobacco Compliance Checks for completion of over 10,000 checks since 2002 and continues at the Designated Youth Tobacco Use Representative for Out-Wayne and Monroe Counties.
  • Since Oct. 1, 2009, in cooperation with BSAAS, the Company now coordinates MI-PTE, The Michigan Institute for Prevention and Treatment Education (formerly the Training Project) as well as the annual Substance Abuse Conference.
  • Designed and implemented Youth Leadership Plymouth for 8th and 9th graders in the Plymouth-Canton Schools. This program has been operational since 2000.
  • Conducted substance abuse training programs through-out Michigan. Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana as well as Ontario and Alberta, CA.
  • Completed a strategic planning process with most school districts in Out-Wayne and Monroe Counties in the design and development of student assistance programs.
  • Implemented Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol in Plymouth-Canton under an original SIG grant.
  • Offered a senior citizens' the "Senior-to-Senior" project in Sumpter Township at churches and senior housing centers.
  • Operated the substance abuse treatment program at Maxey Training School, Arbor Heights and Adrian Training School.
  • Initiated the Wayne County Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking.
  • Conducted Children of addicted Families groups through-out Out-Wayne County.
  • Assisted in the development of the substance abuse treatment program at Vista Maria.
  • Developed prevention curricula which include: Paper People, Conflict Resolution, Peer Mediation, ParentPlus, Children in Focus, Drug Matrix, Drug Affected Children and Educational Support Groups.
  • In addition trainings have been offered in Prevention Ethics, Community Organizing, Portfolio Development, ICRC Test Preparation, and Prevention Basics to name a few.
