Lynn Kocan, BA, CPS

Lynn F. Kocan completed the requirements to become a Certified Prevention Specialist in 2008 to provide Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Prevention services in the State of Michigan. She has attended numerous seminars to gain knowledge and skills regarding ATOD Prevention and Multi-Cultural/Specific Populations. Ms. Kocan's education will culminate with the completion of the ICRC exam.

Ms. Kocan's responsibilities include: maintaining an updated list of Tobacco Retailers in Out-Wayne and Monroe Counties; serving as liaison for police departments regarding annual compliance checks; and ensuring accurate completion and data entry of compliance check reporting forms.

Ms. Kocan holds the title of financial and office administrator at The Knopf Company, a position she has held since 1987. Ms. Kocan's training and expertise is in business management, financial accounting and office procedures. She is responsible for the preparation of payroll and subsequent tax reports, accounts payables, accounts receivables, monthly and annual budget reports, and the development of fiscal policy. Ms. Kocan maintains the computerized accounting system, develops financial spreadsheets to track expenditures of client projects, and inputs prevention activity data into the Substance Use Disorder Prevention Data System (SUDPUDS). Additionally, Ms. Kocan attends the SEMCA-sponsored Program Evaluation Workshops, and is adept at completing Process and Outcome Evaluation Plans as well as Logic Model Planning.

Prior to joining The Knopf Company, Ms. Kocan served as the office administrator for a management consulting firm after an eight-year tenure at Ford Motor Company. Ms. Kocan progressed to positions of increasing responsibility in the management and personnel planning department while working for Ford Motor Company. Ms. Kocan holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University.

Ms. Kocan has a strong commitment to community involvement. From 2001-2006, Ms. Kocan served on the City of Novi Planning Commission as the Commission's Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Secretary. Ms. Kocan has also served on the Implementation, Budget, Community Liaison, and Rules Committee and on the City of Novi Zoning Board of Appeals. Ms. Kocan worked on the High School Curriculum Planning Committee, volunteered her time as a Catechism teacher, and served as the team manager for her son and daughter's soccer teams.
